Hi guys, it’s been a pretty intense few days hasn’t it? I originally wasn’t going to talk about this, but if you see my Twitter I make my political stance quite clear. And after this Election I think we can all agree the nation has some healing to do. How do we move forward from this? How do we live in an America where so many of us are terrified to exist in? I’ve heard horrible things from both Trump supporters and Clinton supporters. Our world is a scary place right now. Many people seem to think that Clinton supporters are upset because “it’s the first time we lost something.” and that’s not true. I’m scared to be a person of color, I’m scared to be a LGBT person in Trumps America. So I did what so many LGBT people have done to keep their heads above water. I looked to the past, I reminded myself of my heroes. People like Willem Arondeus, Harvey Milk, Urvashi Vaid, Dan Savage. In doing this, I realized something. We marched on Christopher street because we believed in us. We believed in a better place, we held riots because we knew if we didn’t stand up for ourselves. No one else would. We fought for our place in the world with every march, every parade every sign we held above our heads shouting “Love is love.” and we made our voices heard. But we will do, what we have always done. We will survive as we always have and will continue to do. I know the news has been stressful. I actually heard riots outside my window. So please take care of yourself. Please do things to make you happy if you’ve been as stressed as me over this whole ordeal. Watch a movie, curl up with a book. and be kind to yourself. Be kind to your friends no matter what side of the political fence they play for.We are all human, and we all deserve respect and kindness. If you do go to the protests please be safe. The world needs you, the world needs it’s heroes again.
“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it–always.” – Mahatma Ghandi
